Maha Rahwanji I’ve been an unwavering fan of Olcay’s since I first heard her, she continues to tug at my eardrum strings with her angelic voice and mesmerising music. I’m only elated she’s added to her repertoire of albums and what light relief in these dark times. 💋💝

This song is a about accepting lost love. ‘Asude’ is a word that implies a decision to be at peace, or more positively, acceptance. Finishing with the lines “In the hands of love there is no smile, I can't say I'm happy”, the song reminds us that life may not take us where we wanted, but we may be at peace Just as the whole world has had to go through a grieving process, all of us must learn to lose loves, dreams and ultimately life, and in the losing find the things that really matter. The flamenco arrangement by Argentine guitarist and producer Ignacio Monteverde in dialogue with saz virtuoso Murat Sığırcı brings a sense of the passionate inner struggle we may go through to reach a place of peace. Sensiz gelip geçti devran Ben yaşadım diyemki Diken olmuş güle revan Ben kokladım diyememki Gecem olmuş iki gözün Damla damla akar özün İşitmedim bir kem sözün Sana kötü diyememki Asudeyim düştüm derde Ne gökteyim ne yerde Son sözlerim kaldı sende Bunu sana diyememki Bu yolların nihanı yok Soranı var bileni yok Aşk elinden güleni yok Ben mutluyum diyememki Time has passed without you I could not tell you this The thorn loves the rose I cannot say I smelled it I am at peace I was in trouble I am neither in the sky nor on the ground I have last words to say to you But I could not say them This road is mysterious No one questions, no know knows There is no smile in the hands of love I cannot say I have lived

Ela (Hazel) 03:44
This is a poem by 17th century Alevi asik bard Karacaoğlan, who lived around 1606-1680 near Mersin in the south of present-day Turkey. In this song the poet has fallen for the hazel eyes of a beauty and pleads “do not kill me before my death”. In Turkey the prolific output of Karacaoğlan is compared to Shakespeare and love and death feature strongly. The pulsing rhythm and breathy ney flute reference Sufi music, where earthly love points to love for the divine. The music is by Olcay and it is arranged and produced by Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist Deniz Mahir Kartal. Ela gözlerine kurban olduğum Şayedip aleme bildirme beni Açıp ak gerdanı durma karşımda` Ecelimden evvel öldürme beni Dilber at kolların dola boynuma Ölüm endişesi gelmez aynıma Bir gece misafir eyle koynuna Sabah oldu deyi kaldırma beni Karac'oğlan tutma beni el gibi Akıttım gözümden yaşı sel gibi Bahçende açılan gonca gül gibi Dizip al yanağa soldurma beni ..... I'm a victim of your hazel eyes Don't hesitate and let me know Don't bare your white neck and stand in front of me Don't kill me before my old age

Lost Child is a vision of a child’s loneliness. It’s a vision that could apply to young people the world over, from Syrian refugee children walking amongst destroyed homes, to victims of abuse, or to children scared for their future in the uncertainty of the global pandemic. The song is close to hopelessness - “I am a bird without a path / Never knew freedom / never flew in her own sky / They broke my wings; never know if ever my hands will reach to the rainbow” - but ends with the child finding an inner anger and resilience to combat the despair. “Who can give me my future? Take your dirty hands off from my hope and dreams.” The child challenges us to question our responsibilities and actions and to consider the kind of world we must leave to our children and those we love. In the arrangement by Al MacSween a faltering heartbeat pulses; a tentative melody on the sweet duduk reed flute played tells us that human feelings are still alive if hidden. The child's finds strength in anger "Who can give me my future? Take your dirty hands off from my hope and dreams." Bir kayıp kentin çocuğuyum ben Sokaklarında hapsolmuş Varmıydım, yokmuydum, bilmiyorum Var olurmuyum Yönü olmayan bir kuşum ben Semalarında uçamayan, Kırdılar kanadımı, karışamamki Sonsuzluğa Bağırır ölümün sessizliği Her yanımda duyarım Kimin günahi bu üdediğim, bilmiyorum Anlarmıyım Kim verir bana geleceğimi Umudumdan, hayallerimden Çekin kirli ellerinizi Lost Child I am a child in a lost city Left alone in its busy streets Am I there? Do I care? Do I exist? I just don’t know. I am a bird in flight - with no path Through the heavens above I cannot fly Wings broken, I can’t reach to eternity, Can’t even try. Shouting all around - the sound of death On every side - I hear the cries I don’t know why I paid for these sins, I don’t understand. My future, who’ll give it back to me? From my hopes and all the dreams I see Take your dirty hands, set me free.
